Clinical Sections

Perioperative and Adult Anesthesia

The clinical purview of this, the largest section within the Department of Anesthesiology,is extensive. The Section of Perioperative and Adult Anesthesia is responsible for the medical OR Secretarycare of patients with general surgical problems, as well as the care of patients undergoing certain subspecialty surgical procedures: Thoracic and Peripheral Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Plastics, Otolaryngology, Transplant and Trauma. The active major vascular, thoracic, neurovascular, radical cancer surgery and transplant services allow abundant opportunity for residents to develop the ability to perform detailed preoperative evaluations, manage complex patients with perioperative multi-organ system failure, and deal with a hemodynamically unstable intraoperative environment. The various modern techniques of regional anesthesia and analgesia are popular among our medical staff.

The Section of Perioperative and Adult Anesthesia incorporates the Preadmission Center. This Center evaluates and participates in the medical preparation for surgery of many of our elective surgical patients.
