The Section of Urologic Anesthesia provides exemplary training to residents and care of patients in the face of many present day challenges of academic medicine. Efforts are ongoing to maintain and improve upon clinical practice, patient safety, teaching, and research productivity. These objectives will remain our mission, has been our privilege, and will represent the future focus of attention for the section. The team will provide anesthesia services for urology patients, consult services for high-risk patients, and active participation in the multi-disciplinary management for the departments resident physicians.
The influence of evolutionary change has entered the clinical, academic, and functional areas within the department of anesthesiology at Yale University School of Medicine. This change has impressed upon the many management thinkers within the institutions and culminated in the incorporation of Urologic Anesthesia Service within the Section of Perioperative and Adult Anesthesia. Now in its second year of formal functioning, the Urologic Anesthesia Service has enabled our department to more closely reflect the gradually changing atmosphere in which we operate, leading to a more effective organization able to conform to changing environmental requirements.
Plans are developing which will attain outcomes consistent with our department's mission and goals. These include a forum in which to provide education, training, and experience in an intellectual atmosphere in which residents will be stimulated and prepared to apply acquired knowledge and talents, and to provide safe and successful perioperative management to patients in this challenging area of anesthesia. As residents become involved in urologic anesthesia, they are exposed to a network of forces: economic, technological, educational, and social. These forces are dynamic and present opportunities in the continuing development of strategic planning of objectives for urologic anesthesia and for collaboration with other departments/sections of the institution.
We will continually strive to improve our excellence in patient care as has been reflected by the high levels of resident, patient, and surgeon satisfaction. This strategic decision is future-oriented and with long-term ramifications. Through continued exemplary dedication by members of the section and resident staff we will be successful in the further development of clinical and innovative educational competency.
