Resident Clinical Scientist Track

Each year, one to two residents have the opportunity to devote a portion of their CA-3 year to a 6-month rotation on the Clinical Scientist Track (CST). The CST is designed to provide residents with the opportunity to devote a block of time to clinical or laboratory research. The program, which is under the direction of the Director of Clinical Research, is offered as a six-month block during the CA-3 year, or as 18 months of research over the CA-2, CA-3, and an additional CA-4 year. The program at Yale seeks to provide the framework for the resident to participate actively as a Principal Investigator in a specific study. Under the close direction of a faculty member from the Department of Anesthesiology or a mentor from another Department who is deemed to be appropriate, the resident is expected to: 1) detail his/her plan in the application for the Clinical Scientist Track, and 2) participate actively in the design and performance of studies, data analysis, and submission of manuscripts for presentation and publication. The resident is also strongly encouraged to attend research seminars and discussions in an effort to broaden her/his research experience.
